The Friends of RCA was established in 1985 to assist the Academy in achieving its mandate. The Friends provide a wide range of support to the Academy, including assistance in organizing, fundraising, and providing public relations for exhibitions, lectures, and other special RCA events. These activities give the Friends a special opportunity to meet and work with artists, and become familiar with their works and activities. Corporate friends have been invaluable to the RCA in sponsoring its activities and offering assistance in presenting its programmes.

Priviledges of Friends of RCA
Friends of RCA receive RCA annual publications and have the opportunity to meet RCA members in their studios, be invited to their exhibitions and to share in RCA social and educational events, including the three day Annual General Assembly held in a different Canadian city each year. Upon joining Friends of RCA, new members receive the RCA Book of Days and the Friends of RCA lapel pin.

Programmes
The Friends of RCA programme offers its members the chance to participate in special events throughout the year as part of the RCA’s public outreach. These events allow for the exchange of ideas about visual culture and offer the opportunity for Friends to become personally aware and involved in contemporary Canadian art. The Friends are invited to exclusive events including guided tours of art exhibitions and private collections, visits to artist’s studios, and symposia.
