| Each year RCA members gather in a
Canadian city in a different region of the country
- to set policy and plan for the coming year, to induct
newly elected members and to celebrate the Academy,
its members and their work. The Royal Canadian Academy
of Arts, the oldest national body of professional artists,
is a membership of artists drawn from a rich variety
of disciplines, generations, gender and geography. |
Over the years each AGA, whether held in Stratford (2000),
Ottawa (2001), Calgary (2002), Montreal (2003), or Vancouver
(2004) is a unifying event for the Academy, as it brings
together RCA members from all areas of Canada and provides
opportunities for artists from many different visual arts
disciplines to share ideas and to form professional alliances.
The Assembly includes an exhibition of newly elected members’ work
hosted by a local public institution. Meetings and events
of the AGA take place at the premier art educational institutions
and public art galleries of the given city.
Moving the AGA around the country gives opportunity to
local RCA members, the visual arts community, and the public
to be involved in AGA programmes and special events. RCA
AGA events include lectures or symposia, celebration of
the induction of new members, and the awarding of scholarships,
acquisition grants to public galleries, and RCA Medals.
Deserving members of the local communities are recognized
in the RCA annual assemblies.
